PSS Pre-K Students Decorate Flowerpots
Polk Street School’s pre-K classes celebrated the beginning of spring with a flowerpot craft on April 11. Following a party with an array of snacks, the students began decorating their own flowerpots. Using colorful spring stickers of bumblebees and flowers, they beautified their pots and prepared them for being filled with dirt. Donning gardening gloves, each student planted their flower seeds. The flowerpots will be placed on the classroom windowsills for the students to observe their growth.

Franklin Square UFSD wishes you and your family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday, some of our students were recognized at the BOE meeting for their efforts and success in the AAUW writing contest.
The AAUW writing contest allowed students from ages 9-11 to express what Democracy means to them.
Way to go!

Yesterday we honored one of our 3rd graders for logging the most hours spent coding for Polk Street during Hour of Code week!

To help those in need this holiday season, Polk Street School students participated in four separate donation drives from November through December.
Students in Girl Scout Troop 1383 hosted a socks/accessories drive for Hannah’s Socks, a non-profit organization that serves those affected by homelessness and poverty, low-income seniors, active military personnel, and underprivileged children in schools. The Girl Scouts also included positive handwritten messages in each pair of socks collected. More than 300 pairs of socks were donated.
Additionally, Polk students brought in toy donations for the Hance Family Foundation Toy Drive, the 31st annual John Theissen Children’s Foundation Holiday Toy Drive and Assemblyman Ed Ra's annual Holiday Toy Drive.

In honor of Veterans Day, Polk Street School invited local veterans and veteran relatives of students to attend two assemblies on Nov. 10. Principal Gilbert Torossian welcomed families, student-speakers shared words of thanks to the veterans in attendance and, the whole room joined in singing “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”
