Students Participate in Submerge Storytelling

Polk Street School fourth graders participated in an educational, immersive storytelling experience with Submerge Storytelling, a local company that offers engaging curricula and enrichment for grades K-5, from March 27-31.

With the help of Submerge Storytelling’s founder Cory Levine, the Polk Street students explored Emmy’s room – a classroom transformed to resemble the character’s bedroom. They interacted with objects throughout the room, such as mineral rocks, Star Wars merchandise, a surfboard and more. Throughout the week, the fourth graders uncovered and investigated clues and codes to make predictions and solve problems.

As the activity is tied into ELA learning, the students were asked to write their observations in complete sentences, with proper punctuation. On the first day, they answered questions like, “How old is Emmy?” “Where does she live?” and “What are her hobbies?” using clues they discovered in her room to provide detailed written evidence.
