Throughout the spring months, students at John Street School have been actively exploring and developing their interests through a variety of afterschool clubs.

From learning the strategies of chess to strengthening their scriptwriting skills, tending gardens outdoors, and creating delicious dishes in culinary arts, these programs offer something to spark every student’s curiosity and creativity.

Recently, the Culinary Club, also known as Cougars Culinary Creations, prepared no-bake Oreo truffles as part of their spring-themed menu. Students worked together to mix the ingredients and roll the truffles by hand, with each student taking home two finished treats. The club has focused on fresh spring flavors, creating desserts such as berry cheesecake cones, strawberry pie and other no-bake specialties inspired by the season.

Meanwhile, the Outdoor Gardening Club has been hard at work in the school’s courtyard, planting tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, green beans, celery and basil. Students also planted marigolds to naturally help deter insects from the vegetables, along with a pollinator garden designed to attract butterflies and bees.
