As the new school year began, John Street School students were greeted by a freshly renovated library, complete with new paint, sleek flooring and comfortable, modern furniture. While enjoying the updated library, students in grades 3-6 are also learning to self-checkout their own books, fostering independence and responsibility.
During September library sessions, students are exploring the works of author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds through an author study featuring his books “The Dot,” “Ish,” and “Sky Color.” As part of Dot Day, a global celebration inspired by “The Dot,” students read the book and took part in a variety of creative activities throughout the week. On Sept. 17, third graders designed and colored their own dots on paper, then used the QuiverVision app to bring their artwork to life in 3D. Dot Day inspires students to make their mark on the world by celebrating creativity, courage and self-expression.
