Polk Street School’s fifth graders recently stepped into the world of law with a creative fairytale spin during their presentation of “The Trial of Goldilocks.”

The program is presented by Hofstra University professor Glen Vogel, also known as Mr. Lawyer Dude. Over the course of six sessions, each fifth grade class prepared for the mock trial, with students taking on roles such as bailiffs, attorneys, police officers and well-known fairytale characters. The case centered on Goldilocks, who stood accused of trespassing, theft and property damage at the home of the Three Bears. Throughout the program, students explored key legal principles and courtroom procedures.

The experience culminated in a full mock trial performance. Families were invited to attend, while fourth grade students acted as the jury. With confident delivery and well-timed humor, the young performers impressed the audience and earned plenty of laughs along the way. This engaging learning experience is an annual program sponsored by the school’s PTA.
