The Oct. 8 Franklin Square Board of Education meeting featured special moments of appreciation, as district leaders and students came together to recognize the commitment and hard work of the board members in celebration of School Board Recognition Week, observed this year from Oct. 13-17.
“Tonight, we take a few minutes to formally recognize and express our deepest gratitude to members of our board of education, who generously volunteer their time and expertise to serve the Franklin Square community,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jared Bloom said. “Our board of education members dedicate countless hours to this critical work, without compensation, and their commitment is a true act of service to our students, their families and our entire community.”
In lieu of individual gifts, Dr. Bloom donated to the Make a Wish Foundation on behalf of the board.
Franklin Square Teachers’ Association representatives continued the presentations, thanking the board for the time, energy and heart put into supporting the district’s staff, students and families. As a token of their appreciation, the teachers provided each board member with a sweet treat. Washington Street School Assistant Principal Dominic Gobbo spoke on behalf of the building administrative team, thanking the board for their dedication and presenting them with mums.
“Just as these flowers bloom with care, our students thrive because of the care and dedication you give each and every day,” Mr. Gobbo said.
The board received heartfelt thanks straight from the students, as well. John Street School third graders gifted special flowerpots to the board members, with each paper flower made by a student and expressing written words of thanks. Polk Street School and Washington Street School each shared video presentations, featuring students thanking the board and highlighting what they love about their schools.
Following the board recognitions, Dr. Bloom took a moment to highlight the staff. He introduced each of the new staff members present at the meeting and formally welcomed them to the district. Additionally, he recognized John Street School art teacher Christine Randazzo, who was recently honored by Assemblyman Ed Ra with a Women of Distinction Award. For more than 20 years, Ms. Randazzo has been a steadfast advocate of the arts in the schools and has successfully led the Pinwheels for Peace event each September.
