The district celebrated students’ artistic talents at an art exhibit, hosted at the Franklin Square Historical Society, on June 5. Approximately 200 students from John Street, Polk Street and Washington Street schools had their artwork on display.
The artworks on display, which showcased projects created during the 2024-25 school year, were selected by the art teachers at each building. Families were eager to view the students’ creations and the line to enter the exhibit was wrapped around the block. The event raised $800 for the historical society’s museum through a raffle featuring baskets filled with art supplies and other fun goodies for kids.
“I truly feel that art is an important part of learning, life and a child’s well-being,” John Street School art teacher Christine Randazzo said. “Children need to have the emotional experience of creating a beautiful work of art to call their own.”
The show was organized by Historical Society Trustee Julie Soffientini, with assistance by district art teachers Cristina Artusa, Julia Katz and Christine Randazzo.
