Polk Street School sixth graders participated in a “Day in Clay” workshop with artist Cliff Mendelson on Jan. 12. The pottery-making activity coincided with their Greek history unit in Social Studies.
The students learned about Ancient Greek pottery and viewed a few samples brought in by Mendelson. He taught the students techniques on how to build their clay pots and demonstrated design tools. The sixth graders enjoyed creating their own Greek-inspired pottery pieces.
The pottery project will conclude in art class, as the students will paint their pieces once they are fully dried.
