In honor of Veterans Day, John Street School invited two veterans from the United Veterans Organization of Nassau County to teach students about the American flag on Nov. 14. Veterans Frank Colon Jr. and Glen Goldstein discussed the meaning of the stars and stripes, how to properly dispose of a flag, and the history of the flag. They also had student-volunteers show how to stand in a color guard. At the conclusion of the program, they said how the national bird, the bald eagle, came to be.
